Extensive humeral hydatid cyst with extraosseous involvement: a case report

چکیده

Hydatid cysts caused by Echinococcus species mainly involve visceral organs. Rarely skeletal involvement occurs. The spine and pelvis account for half of the cases osseous hydatidosis, making humeral hydatid one rarest conditions. We report a case hydatidosis in 42-year male who presented to us with pain swelling over left upper arm, radiological investigations suggestive cystic lesions were inconclusive diagnosis was confirmed biopsy subsequently. Surgical excision curettage bone surrounding soft tissue done, void filled using PMMA cement followed antihelminthic chemotherapy. No complication or recurrence has been found postoperatively at end 6 months follow-up, preservation limb function. To keep orthopedic surgeons aware this morbid condition, due its low prevalence, advanced presentation which is likely misdiagnosed, even after early intervention, there high rate makes rare notifiable.
